‘Royal Iris’ is the new single from singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Steve ‘Avo’ Lindsey, out now via Fretsore Recordse. The song is the lead from Wirral-born bassist of Deaf School (and frontman of new wave chart act The Planets) upcoming full-length project due later in 2025.
Lyrically, the track stands as an homage to the legendary Liverpool-based riverboat, once home to the famed Cavern Cruise with a stage headlined by some of music’s biggest icons. A Mersey legend, the ferry is now a shadow of its cultural heyday, disintegrating near the Thames barrier.
On the single, Lindsey states;
“The Royal Iris is a legendary boat, and it regularly comes up in conversation on my social media streams. I wanted to give it one last hurrah!”
Ian Sephton, MD of Fretsore Records adds
“Steve casually sent me a rough of Royal Iris in Jan 2024 and I loved it. Over the next year he sent me another dozen great songs which we plan release as an album called PING in Oct 2025. So, join me on the same journey starting with a lovely homage to this famous vessel”.
