‘Grey to Blue (Reimagined)’ is the new single from The Clang Group, fronted by legendary UK hitmaker Clive Langer – credits include David Bowie (global smash “Absolute Beginners”), Morrissey, Elvis Costello, Dexy’s Midnight Runners (international No.1 hit “Come On Eileen”)
The track is an extended re-recorded interpretation of the original version which appeared on February’s critically acclaimed New Clang album. The new version features strings in an orchestral cinematic soundscape.
With the new single, Langer extends his catalogue of musical gems which includes his work with Madness (including UK No.1 hit ‘House of Fun’), Morrissey and Elvis Costello (with whom he co-wrote the Robert Wyatt classic hit ‘Shipbuilding’).
New Clang, released in February made waves across key UK press, featuring in The Guardian, MOJO, Classic Pop and more, with radio support across BBC 6 Music.
On the single, Langer states;
Grey to Blue…just a sad reflection on the war in Ukraine. It’s quite naive really, the sorry state of our world at the moment. I wanted to re-record the track because I always thought it to have cinematic potential, so this is the ‘technicolor’ version. I roped Bridget Samuels (I’d worked with her on some fat White Family tracks) in to write a string arrangement. The strings completely transformed the track into 3D and created new challenges in blending into The Clang backing track. It worked!
Jamie wasn’t available so Mark ‘Bedders’ Bedford kindly played bass. The last time he played on one of my songs was the Robert Wyatt version of Shipbuilding!!
